POSADA IGNATIUS. TAKE A STEP BACK IN TIME & UNWIND.
HOTEL EN NAVARRETE.
The Posada Ignatius Guesthouse is perfectly located in the heart of the Rioja region, famous across the globe for its excellent wines and cuisine. Enjoy your stay in the building that was the residence of the Duke of Najara during the 15th Century.
The pension has been totally renovated in 2018 and is situated in the privileged location on the crossroads of St James' Way & The Ignatian Way.
A NOBEL HOUSE STEEPED IN HISTORY.
The founding father of the Jesuits, Ignatius of Loyola, resided in the building from 1517 to 1521 when he was a knight under the orders of Antonio Manrique de Lara, Duke of Najara.
Experience the ancient walls, beams and 15th century wine cellar just as Saint Ignatius did exactly five centuries ago.
La Rioja Wine Route
Navarrete is surrounded by vineyards that provide the world with Spain’s most famous export, La Rioja wine. Relax after your travels in our medieval wine cellar or in the comfort of your own room with a glass of Rioja from one of the many local bodegas. If you’d like to learn more about the culture of winemaking then we organise wine tasting sessions and visits to some of the most spectacular wine cellars in the world, all on the doorstep of Pension Posada Ignatius.
Pottery in Navarrete
Navarrete is famous for its heritage of pottery making. The village has many small cottage industries in operation that specialise in terracotta pot throwing and also hosts the nationally important Pottery and Ceramics Festival, NACE, which this year will be exhibiting works by Picasso!!
St James’ Way and Ignatian Way
Navarrete stands on the crossroads of two of Spain’s most emblematic long distance walks, namely the world famous St James’ Way (El Camino de Santiago) and The Ignatian Way (El Camino Ignaciano). The route to Santiago has seen pilgrims pass by the door of the Posada Ignatius for centuries and we are thrilled to see the popularity of The Ignatian Way increase in popularity, especially due to the importance of the Posada in Ignatius of Loyola’s life.

A little bit of history
The Pension Posada Ignatius is housed in the Palace of The Duke of Nájera on the Plaza del Arco (Arch Square) which was the western entrance to the old walled town. The arch was also the location of the Royal Jail. If you look to the right of the entrance you will see the old town wall which continues into the main entrance.

A New Breath of Life for a House with Noble and a Saintly Past
The Pension Posada Ignatius is the fruition of months and months of hard work. The owners of the complex first acquired the first part of Palace of the Duke Of Nájera back in 2000 when it was little more than wreck of a building.
