A 15TH CENTURY GUESTHOUSE IN NAVARRETE, LA RIOJA, ON THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO

St James’ Way and Ignatian Way

Español (Spanish)

St James' Way, or known as El Camino de Santiago, winds its way through some spectacular parts of La Rioja enroute to its end destination in Santiago in Galicia. Navarrete has been host to pilgrims for centuries. Testament to this are the remains of what was the Pilgrims Hospital of The Order of St John which can be found at the entrance of the village.

Once in the village proper there are range of hostels specifically catering to pilgrims and a host of hotels and pensions which provide a place to relax and rest for those looking for a little more comfort and privacy. The route passes right in front of our door at the Pension Posada Ignatius as it has done for centuries. We are proud to be able to offer accommodation to pilgrims in this newly rehabilitated medieval building. Take a look inside and step back in time in this magical pension on the crossroads of the St James' Way and the Ignatian Way.

Relax in modern comfort at the crossroads of routes that have inspired travellers for centuries

El Camino Ignaciano

known in English as The Ignatian Way, retraces the journey Ignacio de Loyola took from his family home of Loyola, in the Basque Country, to the monasteries of Montserrat and Manresa. Ignatius walked this path in 1522 after his spriritual awakening whilst recovering from his injuries after the Battle of Pamplona.

Ignatius of Loyola was at the Battle of Pamplona whilst serving the Duke of Najera. The Posada Ignatius is situated in what was the Duke of Najera’s residence in Navarrete and it is known that Ignatius spent much of his time at the residence whilst he was in the service of the duke.

The Ignatian Way makes a stop in Navarrete as Ignatius stopped off to collect money owed to him for his service to the Duke. Check availability here to book the unforgettable experience of stopping in the very same building Ignatius stopped in on his pilgrimage to Monserrat.
